Nice to meet you Match After a false start, iTunes Match became available in the UK, sooner than I expected. Judging by the image above, it could be a while before my collection is all sorted. I’m just glad I don’t have my singles collection in there yet. One more thing… I’d just like to see one teeny, tiny little addition to the service in future, which would really help my “ripping workflow”. Currently when I buy a CD (yes, I still buy them) I take it out of the box, and stick it straight into the Mac to get ripped.…

What is the relevance, El Reg? Biker gang plunders Covent Garden Apple Store: Two men are being questioned by coppers after the “smash and grab” raid at 1am today, just days after the death of billionaire Apple baron Steve Jobs. For some reason The Register decided that a story about a smash and grab at a consumer electronics store needed a reminder about Steve Jobs passing away. But they couldn’t just leave it at a simple reference - they had to point out that he was “billionaire Apple Baron”.…

He's totally called me out... …by which I mean I’m a professional racer. Charlie Brooker | The 80mph speed limit is a waste of time Everyone knows there are only two kinds of men who feel the need to drive fast: professional racers and the poorly endowed. (Via Charlie Brooker)…

"We are disappointed with this ruling and believe it severely limits consumer choice in Germany" Samsung are bitching about the decision to ban sales of their Galaxy Tab 10.1 being upheld by a German court. I love the fact that they say it limits consumer choice, completely ignoring the fact that by making a device so similar to the iPad that they reduced the buyers decision to purchasing an iPad or an inferior iPad clone. Now that is severely limiting consumer choice.…

I wish I'd patented... I should know better, but I still read the comments on articles about patent litigation. For some reason in every comment section there is always a bunch a posters who think they are the first person to say: I wish I’d patented [obvious thing] because I’d be rich now. So whether it’s breathing, or patenting things, or fire, or speech, or something else. My wish… I wish I’d patented trolling, misinformed posts about patenting obvious things.…

Roaming Granularity After recently switching to a pre-paid mobile service I’ve been a bit more aware of how much things cost. We recently took a trip to Dublin which involves roaming and being cost-conscious I ensured my iPhone had Data Roaming disabled. Unfortunately we got a bit lost for a while and I had to turn on the tap for a while to use Google Maps. I was sure I hadn’t used much data, but when I got home I checked my usage and found that I’d spent over £8 checking Google Maps for a couple of minutes.…

Flawed Argument Matt Asay wrote a generally interesting article on the Motorola Mobility acquisition by Google but this stood out as a strange and flawed argument: Second, it’s critical to remember who buys Android devices versus iOS devices: kids buy Android (“It’s cheap!") while adults largely buy iOS (“Pricey, but it makes me cool with the other soccer dads!"). Guess which group will be buying devices long into the future? Sorry Matt, but you’ve made a big assumption here that “kids” will continue buying the cheap devices even when they can afford to buy the pricey ones.…

Don't Make Me Wait This week Apple announced their new iCloud service, and one facet that particularly intrigued me was the availability of iTunes in the Cloud. I’ll let Apple describe the concept: With iCloud, the music you purchase in iTunes appears automatically on all your devices. You can also download your past iTunes purchases. Where you want, when you want. This seemed like it would save a lot of headaches for me.…

"...technology has left us hopelessly spoiled..." …technology has left us hopelessly spoiled. We whine like disappointed emperors the moment it does anything other than pander to our every whim. If the internet gave free back rubs, people would complain when it stopped because its thumbs were sore. Charlie Brooker…
